SUSTAINABILITY

THE COMMUNITY

We believe that one of the greatest forms of sustainability must be to give back to our community, to keep the industry and skills within it alive and our economy thriving. We also believe that fewer products, made better, can be treasured for a long time. We aim to therefore create well-made and beautiful everyday, utility product that our customers will be able to use and love for a long time. Each of our pieces are made by women in the Flats Communities of Cape Town who are highly skilled and experienced machinists, tailors and garment analysts. They are not mass produced in factories, but made in small batches to reduce waste. The time it takes from design to production is longer and slower and individually crafted with acute attention to detail.

FABRICS AND PROPERTIES

Designing for a longer life and advancing the use of responsible and ethically produced materials are some of the main priorities in reducing our footprint. So we like to use fabrics with technical (tech-infused) properties, because it lasts for a long time in a timeless design and therefore sustainably being past down to the rest with little to almost no deterioration over many years. Of course there are also other properties, but sustainably sourced materials are those that have a lighter imprint on the environment as they are woven and as such is linen, or materials that are consciously produced in a more responsible manner.

  • TECHINICAL FABRIC

The wide range of functionality in technical Fabric or as we like to call it tech-infused is due to extensive research and development as well as innovation in the industry. Today, we can engineer a technical fabric to possess the precise characteristics and qualities for optimal everyday wear and durability.

  1. Anti-bacterial
  2. Wash and Wear
  3. no ironing
  4. quick drying
  5. breathable

  • COTTON & LINEN BLEND

For years, clothing manufacturers discovered the excellent benefits of blended fabrics versus single fabric material. Besides the minimal production costs, it also allows better appearance and strength of the textile while ensuring more comfortable care. The softness and smoothness of cotton resolve the roughness and skin friction issues of linen. On the other hand, the lightness of the cotton material is shouldered by the linen's stiffness. These blends and their unusual combination make it a perfect choice for summer clothing.

Poplin is a durable, lightweight cotton fabric, with a close/tight weave, which is soft to touch. It has a crisp feel and is less prone to creasing than some more traditional cotton fabrics.

  1. Breathable
  2. Absorbs moisture and dries quickly
  3. Does not retain odours
  4. Dries Quickly
  5. Hypoallergenic, perfect for sensitive skin

  • SOFT SATIN

Satin uses long filament fibres which are woven in a very taut fashion, the resulting material is stronger than many plain weave fabrics. Difficult to work with. Since satin is soft and slippery, it can be unforgiving in the sewing process making it quite rare for a quality piece.

  1. Durable
  2. Wrinkle-resistant
  3. Breathable
  4. High Quality

SUPPLIERS
